Speaking in Tongues once we see it today in Christian churches is just a relatively new phenomenon going back to early 1900s.
Exactly why is this? And in fact is what we are seeing today exactly the same gift that motivated Jesus disciples at Pentecost?
In order that they might preach the gospel in the indigenous tongue of all those, the disciples received the ability to speak in the languages of the surrounding countries they met. If today what we see in churches may be the same present, why was it missing from the church for over 1800 years?
Through the entire Bible it's observed that God gave His people presents of the soul to allow them to complete what was needed for a particular goal at a particular time.
It's easy to see why God saw it necessary to give the gift of Speaking in Tongues to the early Church. How else can ignorant men have already been in a position to spread the gospel? The question is then, why could the present of Speaking in Tongues have already been reintroduced to the church after this type of long absence. What possible function does it serve given that the church is made in almost every part of the world?
We must note also that whenever the gift of tongues was handed, with the aim of evangelising, they understood what they were saying. 1 Corinthians 14:15-16 What's it then? I'll pray with the spirit, and I'll pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I'll sing with the understanding also. Else when you shall bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the area of the unlearned say Amen at your giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what you sayest?
Is what we're viewing in churches today the genuine present, or has Satan somehow been able to integrate the Christian world and deceive them with a counterfeit of just one of Gods gifts for his own purposes?
The Bible warns us that in the end times there will be a huge outpouring of bogus miracles, signs and wonders that could deceive much of the Christian world. Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to attract, if it were possible, even the elect.
Many Christians are completely oblivious to the fact speaking in tongues can be applied in lots of non-christian religions. It's used in African customs and in voo doo and occult beliefs. Separate studies are finding that there surely is no distinction in tongues between Christians and the followers of non-Christian (pagan) religions.
Among the most significant qualities of the Holy Spirit is he will guide us into truth. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he'll make suggestions into all truth: for he shall not discuss about it himself;. Facts are the knowledge of the full and true gospel message that our sins can be understood through the blood of our saviour Jesus. The concept that we are saved by grace and not works, and that those who are saved will be obedient to the will of the Daddy and follow His commandments, just like Jesus also instructed. John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
The fact that several churches who are practicing speaking in tongues are also teaching that we no longer need certainly to obey the rules, which directly contradicts what Jesus taught when He said Mathew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be satisfied should make us move back and simply take a second look at whether this trend being practiced in our churches is of God or from another source.
