Its unfortunate that therefore many individuals just dont have it. They seem to want to light and generally overlight anything. They light their businesses and homes. They light walkways and parking lots. They light trees and bushes. They light just about everything and any such thing. Like this was not bad enought, they have a tendency to light them from dusk to dawn even though most everyone is asleep all through those hours and completely unable to see them anyway. A recent review by the National Park Service's Night Sky Team showed that our countries National Parks are susceptible to some level of light pollution. These are a few of the wildest, most distant areas left and even they're feeling the consequences of our poor exterior lighting behaviors.
Exactly what do we do about any of it? Well its fairly easy. Light pollution is one of the dilemmas to repair (technically speaking). Simply switch off the lights and the situation disappears. Obviously, getting people to break their addiction is much easier said than as many people done really fear the dark. If turning off the lights is simply a great deal to ask then your next best thing would be to make sure that all of your external lights are night sky friendly lights. Night sky friendly outside lights place all of their light output on a lawn with none glowing straight up to the night sky creating sky shine or thoughtlessly across property lines in the shape of light trespass. What a notion, huh? Where its needed.. put the light. and nowhere else. You'll help reduce light pollution... and save your self a couple of dollars in the act.
