There are several options to choose from and calling local antique malls or local antique dealers is one of them. You never want to call just one because the price that one dealer will quote you could be much lower than the price you will get from another dealer. 
Be prepared for the antique dealers you call to ask you to describe what types of items you have. Antique dealers want to have an idea of what you have before they commit to making a house call. 
 If a few of the dealers you call turn you down, don't be discouraged.  Do not assume that the merchandise you have is not any good.  That could be overwhelming to some smaller dealers if you tell them you have an entire ten-room house full of furniture and collectibles.   If they refuse you, the current economy could also be a factor.   If they have experienced a real downturn in their business lately, they may not have the money needed to be real players.   Also, some antique dealers might have shops that are too small to handle such a large amount of merchandise.  The smaller your estate, the better the response. 
Never schedule more than one antique dealer to come at the same time. This is really bad form and could hurt you in the long run. Some of the dealers could be friendly with each other or could be located in the same antique mall.  Because he or she feels uncomfortable, you don't want a dealer opting out from making an offer.  Eliminating competition is not in your best interest. 
Be careful with the antique dealers who do show up. Some dealers are going to want to pick and choose items they know will make them excellent money. In other words, they are going to want to buy just the good stuff. 
If you allow the antique dealers who do come calling to strip the estate of all the quality merchandise, then you will be left with a house full of  mediocre or poor  quality items. Not only might you not get any money for the remainder, you could be faced with having to dispose of it yourself. 
If there are a number of valuable collectibles in the estate then you can afford to let a few of them go to an individual dealer if they offer you enough money, but only a few. Once you have been paid, you no longer have to be concerned with how carefully the dealers handle the merchandise, but you do want to make sure that no damage is done to the interior of the house - such as the walls, floors, stairs, carpets, etc.
