Carbs are often considered as the main source of energy for your body to function properly.

However you get good carbs & you get the bad ones that should be avoided to enjoy good health, encourage weight loss & have a slim, lean body.

Some people, for example Professor Tim Noakes, advocate a low carb diet to avoid serious health problems such as adult-onset diabetes & obesity, however more on that later.

The main category of carbohydrates to avoid are simple carbs and refined foodstuffs.

Simple carbs include the following type of foods;

- white bread - white rice - potatoes - sweets - soda drinks - white rice - pasta - fast foods - pastries

Whilst this list is by no means conclusive, foods such as potatoes turn to glycose almost as soon as they are eaten which causes a massive spike in your blood sugar levels.

This spike in turn causes your insulin levels to increase as it attempts to process the great amounts of glucose in your bloodstream.

What usually happens is that as simple carbs are dumped into the bloodstream as glucose, your pancreas excretes the hormone known as insulin to process the sugar into energy.

However because of the high amounts of glucose, sucrose & fructose in the system, the pancreas is under pressure to provide enough insulin which it cannot do & the glucose ends up getting dumped into your fat cells where it remains.

This causes progressive weight gain, bloating & lethargy not to mention the possiblity of diabetes.

As mentioned above Professor Tim Noakes has done an about turn on his previous dietary habits which advocated a high carb diet to maintain energy levels & good health.

He now personally follows a no-carb diet which has provided him with renewed feelings of youthfulness, improved health as well as realizing significant weight loss.

So if you are tired of feeling sluggish, unhealthy & overweight, it is time to for you to consider changing your eating habits for life.
