Maybe you have gone solo backpacking? When you have, you'll probably concur that it is not just a issue of it being better or worse than backpacking with friends. It's merely a different action altogether.

It is a social event, when you go backpacking with others. You enjoy the scenery, feel great walking the trails, and you get acquainted with people in a different setting than usual. There is often a lot of talking, and you feel relatively safe as part of an organization. It's a great experience.

Solo Backpacking Visits

When you're alone in the wilderness, it is different. There's a serenity that can never be there when you are with others. With no one to speak to, you end understanding everything and start seeing things more directly.

I recall sitting by an lake at 12,000 toes in the Sierra Nevadas, after perhaps not seeing anyone for just two days. Sunlight was shining, and the silence was broken only by the clatter of stones falling from the cliffs above. I was calm, and I felt enjoy it was the absolute most beautiful place on earth. It's different when I'm with friends.

It's also true that there is an "edge" to solo hiking. There is no body there to help you if you run into trouble. The grizzly outside my tent in Wyoming, or the rockslide before me in Colorado - these specific things were thought viscerally. You become very aware of how vulnerable you're. This really is an interesting experience - but not a poor one.

The best facet of walking solo, is that all action is more natural. We are social animals without a doubt, nevertheless when with others, our actions and choices are made within a group. There's always a little pressure involved with handling all the personal needs.

Consider something as simple as sleeping alongside the path for five minutes. Even while it is a rest for one, it can be an unatural break in the rhythm for another, and yet a decision must be made to stop or not. On another hand, choices move very nearly without thought when you are alone. Exactly what a wonderful respite from the issues of ordinary life.

When you have perhaps not yet tried solo hiking, escape there and get it done. At least go for an over-nighter. How usually do you actually spend a day without seeing another person? You'll recognize the knowledge. (Watch for my article on solo hiking tips.) entrust card
