Nominated for 7 Emmys in its first five seasons, Law & Order SVU (Special Victims Unit) continues the achievement of NBC's blockbuster Law & Order franchise. The creation of Order & Law author Dick Wolf (former writer for hit SHOWS such as Hill Street Blues and Miami Vice), Law & Order SVU is shot on location in New York. It uses the standard half-police drama/half-courtroom drama format that made its precursor a great success, however SVU focuses exclusively on sexually based offenses
Law & Order SVU tells the story of a group of committed investigators who work with the elite group the Special Victims Unit known. Capt. Mark Cragen (Dann Florek) heads up the machine which include four normal investigators - Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), John Munch (Richard Belzer), and Odafin Tutuola (Ice-T). While analyzing rapes, murders, and other horrible crimes, the investigators usually consult with police psychiatrist Dr. George Huang (B.D. Wong) who provides special insight in to the minds of alleged predators. Once the necessary evidence is gathered by the detectives, their case is turned by them over to Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak (Diane Neal) who agents offers and prosecutes the circumstances that set these nefarious criminals behind bars
The Order SVU DVD & Law features a quantity of dramatic episodes including the series premiere "Payback" when a taxi driver is discovered stabbed to death along with his genitals cut off. They find out that the man is a soldier from the Serbo-Croatian conflict and that he was a rapist, when investigators Stabler and Benson examine. Benson, a daughter or son of rape, is sympathetic to the steps of rape victims, and Stabler must keep her from crossing the line to safeguard the potential suspects Other significant episodes from Season 1 include "Sophomore Jinx" in which a college student's murder investigation is blocked by the college when the SVU suspects a s) of the school basketball team, and "The Third Guy" in which an elderly person is tied up and raped in her house, but the investigation takes a unique angle when the initial suspects are cleared and a new criminal enters the picture
