Eliminating Problem Dog Behaviors With A Few Tips

A new puppy brings delight into your family. His rambunctious antics and affectionate responses have everyone giggling with happiness. Surely, his loyalty and affection will be a part of your family for many years to come. But this depends on the training which you are just now beginning. Here are some tips to help you complete this training successfully.

Potty training a puppy can be a harsh task at times, but not impossible. You have to remember that the puppy doesn't know that when they go to the bathroom inside that it is wrong. Try your best to keep an eye on your puppy and if it starts looking like it has to go to the bathroom let it outside, after the puppy goes to the bathroom praise the puppy so it knows it did the right thing.

Create a bridge between the dog's response to a command and the reward for success. By saying a bridge word such as "yes" or "good", you will reinforce that the behavior is acceptable and the reward will follow. Keep using this bridge word even after training is complete to be consistent with your pet.

When you train your dog, you don't have to train him to do exactly what your training book or video says he should do; however, you must train him to behave in a way that will fit in well with your family. You must train him in such a way that you can take him for a walk or to the vet without a lot of drama. By determining exactly what sort of behavior you need from your dog and then working consistently to attain that behavior, you will support your dog in having a happier and more successful life.

Make sure your dog is used to being handled, including its mouth and feet. Dogs need their teeth brushed regularly, and once they are used to the routine it is much less of a struggle. It is also easier for the vet to examine them when needed. Toenails should be trimmed every month or so, and the process is less traumatic for dogs accustomed to having their feet handled.

With these tips, you are ready to proceed confidently with your puppy's training. Consistency and attentiveness will win out over his unbridled impulsiveness. You want your pet to fit into your family life and become a faithful friend for many years. Following these training tips can pay off with just that result.
